Christ Our Savior Parish

Christ Our Savior is a result of the reconfiguration of the parishes of the Diocese of Youngstown decided upon by Bishop George V. Murry, S.J. in the Spring of 2010, the two parishes in Struthers -- Holy Trinity on the northside and St. Nicholas on the southside of the Mahoning River -- were to merge. The parishes began working toward that end in early August of 2010 when the priests serving St. Nicholas, who was at the tie without a rectory, moved into the rectory at Holy Trinity which had been vacant since Fr. Bill Petrunak's death in February of 2010. The Parish Councils of both parishes designated members of a Joint Council to plan and effect the transition. The group set July 1, 2011, as the date for the formal merger. Through the year a process was conducted to select a new name for the parish. The three top names from an initial list of 80 were sent to Bishop Murry with their ranking in the Spring of 2011. Bishop Murry chose to name the parish Christ Our Savior. The merger became effective on July 1, 2011, as planned.



The Joint Council determined to sustain the two churches for service to the newly merged community. The Church buildings retain their names. Thus Holy Trinity Church and St. Nicholas Church persist though not as parishes.
